Sidewalks and curbs

Broken curbs and the walk that meets the street

Precision Concrete & Construction repairs curbs and the sidewalks that meet them for HOA communities in Central Florida. A curb takes more abuse than the walk behind it. Delivery trucks and trailers cut the corners. Mowers and landscape trailers ride the edge. Tree roots that lift a sidewalk often roll the curb with it.

What a broken curb looks like

The face of the curb is chipped or missing. A section dropped and no longer lines up with the curb on either side. A gap opened between the curb and the street or between the curb and the walk. Where the curb is broken, water that should run along the street to the drain inlets runs under the walk and into the sod instead.

Cut out and poured back

The broken section is saw-cut, broken out, and hauled off. New concrete is formed to match the curb on either side, so the line of the street does not jump at the repair. A curb that is lifted by a root has the root cut back first, or the new section rises with it.

Price the curb and the walk together

A new walk poured against a broken curb leaves the job half done. When the walk is lifted at the street, the curb is usually part of the same problem, and it should be its own line on the same estimate. Where the walk crosses the street, the ramp and the detectable warning panel belong on that list too. See Detectable warnings at community entries and Drain inlets that hold water on the walk.
