Concrete
When a cracked slab has to come out
New concrete poured in front of a home in a Central Florida community.
Precision Concrete & Construction cuts out and replaces cracked, settled, and root-lifted concrete for homes, HOA communities, and shops in Central Florida. Concrete cracks. Most slabs are poured with joints so the crack lands in a straight line where it does no harm. A crack becomes a repair when the two sides no longer sit at the same height, when pieces break loose, or when the slab rocks underfoot.
Why a patch does not hold
Patch material troweled into a crack that is still moving breaks loose at the edges. A patch over a slab that settled leaves the settlement, and the low side still holds water. A patch over a root-lifted slab leaves the root, and the slab keeps rising. The patch looks like a fix from the street for a season, then it is the next trip hazard.
Cut out and poured back
Where the slab is no longer sound, the bad section is saw-cut on a straight line, broken out, and hauled off. Roots that lifted it are cut back so the new concrete does not rise again. New concrete is formed and poured to meet the slab on either side, so there is no new trip hazard at the joint.
Fix the slope, not just the crack
If the old slab sent water toward a house, a garage, or a low spot, the new pour should correct the slope, not copy it. Replacing the concrete at the same grade puts the water back where it was. Nikki puts that on the estimate when she sees it.
What can go on the same list
Pool decks, pads, walks, and the slab in front of a garage can be on the same estimate as the sidewalks. Automotive shop floors are their own scope, with dowels, a rebar mat, and a high-early mix. That work is in What goes into an automotive shop lift footing.
